  This historic pub is very well situated on the banks of the Hunter River, and has splendid water views. We have been eating here for about five years. However, my dining experience today was an unhappy one. The vegetarian pizza that I ordered (about $19) came with lashings of what I thought were inappropriate vegetables, and as I probed round my plate looking for a bit that I liked the pizza degenerated into a pile of glug. I have resolved that next time I visit the river I will take my kayak, and next time I have the urge for a vegetarian pizza I’ll be off to Aussies.
  Four stars for location, décor and staff. The pizza gets none.
